A lot of folks rode to the polls today.  Here in Washington State, we vote by mail only.  I voted a week ago, actually.  I did ride today, however.

In the Gravel

On Tuesdays, I drop off my daughter at school, and generally ride to work from there.  As it’s on the way to work, it has usually been a short ride day.

By the Fishing Piers

I have been going the longer route along the ship canal, Magnolia, and Myrtle Edwards.  The waterfront trail is sublime and largely unused in Seattle.  It has been freshly paved in more than half of the miles I ride it, so it’s a pleasant ride.  The main reason I go this way is that it’s scenic as hell!

Commute Panda

I was expecting rain today, so the dry spell both ways was a nice bonus.  I do feel guilty peeling off the trail and putting my bike in my pickup for the short drive home, however.  I always wish I could finish the ride.

I am going back to an old favorite cockpit on the camp bike. The Mustache bars felt a bit stretched after a while, and I didn’t want to push them up too much higher. The Porteur bars give me a nice narrow forward position on the brake hoods, while providing a nice relaxing upright spot that drops and ‘staches don’t. Since I was going Porteur, I figured I had to go “full Porteur” with the large front basket and bag. This thing can carry a ton as my next post will show.

Back from a winter ride

I’ve been a bike commuter for about 20 years now.  Not full time, but a few days a week most of the time, and my bike time has gotten more involved as I get older.

I believe that biking to work/school/errands will make you healthy, happy, less stressed, and more energized.  This is all based on my personal experience, however.  You may be a “different” type of person who finds it to make you sick, sad, and stressed out.  You either need to give it more time (do it for 3 months), or perhaps you should just take the bus.

Either way works for me.  Now I just need to figure out how I can manage to do this until I die.  It’s that big a deal.
